The St. Charles Community Garden is located next to The Dorothy Day Center and serves as an additional source of fresh fruits and vegetables for food recipients as well as parishioners, and our friends and neighbors. We plant spring and fall crops. The garden consists of five raised beds and also serves as a teaching garden and a quiet place to rest, relax, and pray. Volunteers can choose any job: weeding, watering, checking for insects and diseases, and deadheading plants. No gardening experience is necessary. This is a flexible job and the time commitment is about 10-15 minutes per visit to the garden. We also have a spring planting day, usually a Saturday morning in mid-April, followed by a cook-out.
